The small space scrutiny

When you want to stretch the space in a small square room, try concentrating your major decorating impact on one wall. In the family room, a square space is made to appear longer by simply tucking long, low shelves under the windows.
To visually change the room’s dimensions, inexpensive shelf units are cut to window height, painted a crisp, clean white, and stretched across the window wall for a built-in look. The unit provides plenty of needed storage space on the shelves below and lots of room above for displaying art and accessories. A framed swath of fabric on the walls provides a colorful diversion from the room’s awkward dimensions.
